Raster or Bitmapped Images

There are basically two types of digital graphics, raster images and vector objects. When someone uses terms such as pictures, images, graphics, or digital graphics, they are usually referring to raster or bitmap images that are composed of pixels, rather than graphics composed of vectors. Most of the graphics that we as educators deal with are raster or bitmapped images. Raster images come in a wide variety of file types but the majority that you will see on the Web will be jpeg (jpg, jpe), gif, and png file types.
